The Story of My Life

I was born a cold winter's night in
the back seat of a taxi, with my dear
father playing the midwife and the poor
taxi driver an unprepared spectator.

During my very early years I spent
much of my time in solitude, being
forced to invent my own methods by
which to keep myself entertained.

Luckily I was soon supplied with
two younger brothers that I could
help prepare for the struggles of
life. Strangely enough they both
survived and have evolved into
fine, adult specimens of the race.

Of my youth there is little to report,
except for a pronounced interest
in expressing myself through the
art of drawing, and an evident
lack of interest in team sports
and "hanging on the corner".

About the time I served my
mandatory year in the army the
last of my siblings was born. This
time it was a girl, and I got the
chance to invent my share of
improvised fairy tales and la-la
songs for her entertainment.

I flourished when starting my art
education. Finally I met people who
shared my love of the arts and
drawing. I also learned to enjoy
both alcohol and the unique
favors granted by the fair sex.

Many more of those types of
people did I meet in the following
years, and my skill with the pencil
and other tools increased. In love
my heart was broken, then mended,
then broken again. I still thrived.

As I achieved my final degree
I had to face the new challenge of
finding employment. I did various
illustrations for newspapers and
magazines, and although it is an
unsteady source of income it is
also rewarding to see your own
work printed and multiplied.

However; I soon sought more
stable work as I discovered I
didn't thrive, or survive, with
such a poor economy.

Working in the kindergarten
increased my liking for children,
but did little to amend my
economical situation, as it is
quite poorly renumerated.

For a time I then maintained a
position as system administrator
for Macintosh computers at my
former art school. This did give me
certain perks, like unlimited access
to bandwidth - and a good opportunity
to play multiplayer online games.

Playing games and following my nose
did eventually pay off, as it did give
me work with the game developer
Funcom, where I currently work.
